We are looking for 1-3 people to join our intentional community!
What it’s like to live here:
We are currently 4 adults and 1 toddler who are invested in each other’s lives and have a continued interest in learning and growing together within the framework of our shared values and aspirations. (link to: Values, Principles, & Aspirations)
Living in this home is lively, with visitors coming and going, regular events being hosted, and a toddler running around. But it’s also cozy, you'll often find someone drinking tea and reading in the living room or you’ll catch the smell of fresh sourdough baking. Maybe you’ll join some of us for the occasional evening movie on the projector screen or spontaneous board game night. People are often surprised at how calm the house is with so many people living here.
We strive to show up and support one another in organic and meaningful ways but also have organized systems and accountability structures including:

Who we’re looking for:
We have 2 rooms available, with a potential 3rd in August and would welcome either 1-2 individuals or a small family who are interested in living outside the traditional nuclear family structure. We are seeking people who are well informed on systems of oppression, are interested in their own personal growth, are generally kind to others, are motivated to engage with the community and who are committed to maintaining the physical space. We are adaptable and ideally looking for someone who wants to help us shape this community, but who also is aligned enough that we don't completely shake things up.
We welcome people of any race, sex, gender, and ability, although there are stairs to get anywhere in the house. One of the bathrooms is on the main floor, as is the kitchen.
Who we are:
B. is a 30 year old white nonbinary person. They teach preschool and are going to school for special education. They love to play video games, do art, rock climb, bake, and play D&D.
S. is a 24 year old black cis woman, she works at an all-black mental health organization as a receptionist, loves playing video games and cracking lots of jokes. She enjoys random conversations, eating ice cream with housemates, going out to parties, and attending house events.
L. is a 37 year old cis white man. T’s dad, tenant organizer with Portland Tenants United, and transportation planner with the Vizion Zero program. Passionate about community building and nurturing, local and neighborhood politics, and eating pasta. He loves singing and riding bikes with T, tinkering with bikes, making useful things out of old wood, reading on the front porch, picking fruit, and swimming in the river.
S. is a 37 year old mostly white cis woman. Mother to T, bodyworker, ambivert, polyam, leftist. She finds joy in the culture of people doing sweet and supportive things for each other. She cries during any movie or book (especially T’s books, they really get you!) She loves community, coffee, humor, hiking, yoga, dreaming, exploring Portland's food scene, neighborhood walks, 1 on 1 connection, hosting parties, bike rides, cooking for people, baking sourdough, reading, dancing, live music, soaking, and taking T on various adventures.
T. is the most adorable toddler who will be three this May. She loves smiling, laughing, singing, sharing stories, asking questions, riding her bike, cuddling with her toys and humans, eating, reading books, running and jumping, and asking to play with whatever you are holding at the moment. She’s generally very happy and fairly chill but she can also scream when she gets really excited or frustrated or tired. Her Saba and Savta (grandparents) come watch her a couple of times a week. S and L are her parents.

Ok if you’re this far, buckle up, here’s some more nitty gritty…
Location:
Alberta! Right smack dab near the middle of it. If you know, you know. If you don’t know, you definitely should. It’s one of the most well known commercial districts in Portland with a lot of events, shops, restaurants, etc. Also we are in the Concordia neighborhood which gets you free access to the Kennedy school soaking pool. We’re right by one of the most used bike/ped greenways and you can take bus lines 8, 17 & 72 from nearby. We have also done a lot of community building with the neighborhood so you’ll get to participate as much as you’d like in various neighbor’s events (and join the super cute neighborhood chat where you can ask your neighbors for a cup of sugar, give away your extra baked goods, share local actions & events, etc).
The house:
A 1907 craftsman with all the charm of a historic build but some modern updates. The kitchen was expanded so it’s huge and full of light. We have hot water on demand and high quality small appliances. There are seven bedrooms of varying sizes, a dedicated guest space, two bathrooms, an awesome large living/dining room, front porch, and a large yard that has a covered patio and ton of fruit. The basement has a washer/dryer, stand up freezer and lots of storage space.
The rooms:
Room 1: $635/month. The room is on the first floor. It’s about 120 sq ft and has a nice large south facing window. There is a big closet, although it is in a kind of funky shape. The room shares a wall with the living room and the front door entrance which can create some noise, but we generally keep the common areas quiet during the night
Room 2: $660/month. This second story room is 11x12 ft, which includes a 3x5 ft closet. It’s both welcoming and comfortable, with a carpeted floor and plenty of light through the north-facing windows. There is a bathroom on this floor, and the room shares walls with two other bedrooms. One of those bedrooms belongs to the toddler of the house.
If you end up taking both rooms the total ends up a little cheaper, $1,130!
Logistics
Room 1 is available now, Room 2 is available at the end of February. We are flexible with move-in dates and are more concerned with a good fit than a perfect timeline.
Rent - $635/$660/$1,130
Security deposit - $584 for one room or $1000 for both
Monthly groceries* - $160 per person
Utilities - about $80-$90 per person
*House groceries are mostly vegan, with a few non-vegan items like eggs, yogurt, cheese. This also covers essentials such as toilet paper, dish soap, etc.
No cats or dogs due to allergies, unfortunately.
